Classic Cocktail Recipes And Ideas To Try

Here are some classic cocktail recipes that have been around for decades. In fact, I remember my mother making some of these for her guests when I was little.
Classic Cocktail Recipes
These first recipes are designed for shorter glasses.
Champagne Cup
Put a teaspoon of castor sugar in a little soda water. Add a half ounce of curacao and a half ounce of brandy.
Fill the glass with champagne and trim with a slice of orange and a cherry.
Champagne Cocktail
Add a lump of sugar to a champagne glass and saturate it with bitters.
Add crushed ice and a half a slice of orange. Fill the glass with iced champagne and a squeeze of lemon. Remove ice and serve.

In a mixing glass put one dash of grenadine syrup, one-third gin, two-thirds sweet vermouth and a squeeze of lemon.
Shake, strain and serve with a cherry.
Sherry Flip
Shake with ice the following:
one beaten egg, one teaspoon of sugar and 2 ounces of sherry.
Strain into a glass and dust with nutmeg.
Brandy Crusta
Put 1 1/2 ounces of brandy and 1 ounce of white curacao into a mixer.
Shake with crushed ice and strain.
Dip rims of glasses into orange juice and then press them into castor sugar before pouring.

Alexander Cocktail Recipe
In a mixer put one-third gin, one-third cream, one-third creme de cacao.
Shake well and serve.
Clover Cup
In a mixer shake 2 ounces dry gin, the juice of half a lemon, sour dashes of grenadine, the white of an egg and ice.
Strain into chilled cocktail glasses.
Long Cocktail Recipes
Black Velvet
This classic cocktail recipe is so simple. Simply mix half champaign and half stout both well chilled.
Mint Julep
Into a tall glass, add a teaspoon of castor sugar, a teaspoon of water and the bruised tops of eight sprigs of mint.
Pour onto this 2 ounces of whiskey.
Fill the glass with shaved ice. Stir until frosted, then decorate with sugar-coated mint.
Planter’s Punch
Into some cracked ice pour the juice of a lemon, the juice of half an orange, 1 1/2 ounces of rum, two dashed of grenadine, two dashes of pineapple juice and a teaspoon of castor sugar.
Shake well, strain into a tall glass and garnish with a slice of unpeeled lemon, a cherry and a sprig of mint.
Polar Bear
Add to some cracked ice 1 teaspoon of castor sugar, three dashes of orange flower water, three dashes of lime juice, half a whipped egg white, 1 1/2 oz dry gin and 3 ounces of milk.
Shake well. It comes out with a collar of egg-white froth and tastes like something strangely superior from a mil bar, but don’t trust yourself with too many of these.
Mint Cooler
Mix in a tall glass one ounce of gin with a 1/2 ounce of green creme de menthe and ice cubes.
Fill with soda water.
Decorate with a slice of unpeeled orange, a cherry and a sprig of mint.
