Split Pea Soup With Gammon

My good friend made this split pea soup with gammon a couple of weeks ago and it was yummy so here goes:
Split Pea Soup With Gammon
You Will Need:
gammon steaks or smoked ham
chopped onion
carrots
split peas
a little olive oil
garlic powder or minced garlic
black pepper
chicken or vegetable stock
water
bay leaf
seasoning to taste
Method:
Saute the onion in olive oil.
Add the minced garlic.
Add water and stock. This is usually salty so don’t add salt unless you feel you need it.
Cut the meat up into bits and add.
Put in 1 1/2 to 2 cups of split peas.
Season and add the bay leaf.
Add carrots cut coin style after a while.
Bring to the boil on a medium-low setting
Can also add celery that has been finely chopped.
Enjoy a piping hot bowl of split pea soup.
